40 Day Fast: Faith Ministry- Part Dos

In the first post for the 40 Day Fast, I introduced you to Faith Ministry from McAllen Texas, and I briefly mentioned how that one mission trip transformed my walk with Christ.  Now, for the rest of the story.. (sorry Paul Harvey )

When I was considering even going on that trip, that was the first time in my life that I had ever felt the prescence of Holy Spirit moving me in a direction to do anything.  Sure, I was a believer and I went to church every week, did the Men’s retreat and all of that, but I never felt the spirit nudge me in a direction, nevertheless to act on that nudging was something that I did very cautiously, at best.

While I was in Mexico, I had a feeling that things inside of me were changing, and that I could never go back, and I probably wouldn’t want to anyway.  I was working side by side with people I could not speak with, people from church that I had never met before, but yet I felt like I was right where I was supposed to be.  From that trip, I met a friend that I still am really close with today, she has always been there for me either when I was in the hospital or helping out with my daughter when we really need it, she is always there for us.  (and even though she is a Dallas Cowgirl fan I still don’t hold that against her being that I am a Redskin fan)

Speaking of my daughter, it was one night when the group went to the town square in Reynosa.  I had gotten back to the meeting spot a little early and was just watching the people and listening to the music from a band that was playing across the square.  I was watching a mother calling out to her daughter, and I thought, that is an interesting name and kept that in memory.  So, we were not back from Mexico 1 week and my wife was telling me she thought she was pregnant.  Sure enough, she was and as the weeks went by we started talking about names.  I mentioned the name to her and it stuck instantly, although we went back and forth on boy’s names all the way into labor and never had a clue what a boy’s name would be.  I knew that she was going to be a girl.

So, it was those examples, (as well as a gash that I have on top of my head on the right side that came from a nail in a little store) that have made a big impact on my life.  Since then, there have been other times when I have felt the nudging of the Holy Spirit that are stories for another post (read about Cross Driven Radio) but I hold on to those memories in Reynosa because the friendships I made and the blessing of my daughter have taught me that when you follow the path that God sets before you, there are blessings waiting for you that go beyond words…

It seems that whenever I am being moved by the Holy Spirit to do something I have the tendency to become fearful of what of what I am nudge to do. I find that I become suborn and begin fighting with God. For some reason I never win those fights.
