Independence Day, Are We Really Free?
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.
2 Chronicles 7:14-16
Those are the words that God spoke to Solomon at the dedication of the temple. Those words speak to us as much today as much as they did to Solomon. There is so much in this world today, jobs, school, family, friends, tv, the internet to name a few that distract us from humbling ourselves before God. I admit that there are quite a few days that I am not reading the bible, praying or even being quiet to hear God speaking to me. You can’t listen when you are distracted by the things of the world.
Today is Independence Day in the U.S. It is a celebration of the day that the settlers of this country declared Independence from England. Today the U.S. is 232 years old. Much has changed in those 232 years. This country was founded on Christian principles and today we have to fight to maintain the few rights we have as Christians to maintain our belief and share it in public. It was not so long ago that it was against the law for a store to be open on Sunday. Now, we have the 24 hour grocery stores, walmarts, gas stations among other businesses.
I want to mention that I am thankful for all of the many blessings that have been given to the US, and I am thankful for all of those warriors, Men and Women that serve our country today and in years past. If you are an active or former service man or woman Thanks for YOUR SERVICE!
The point I am really wanting to make is that as a follower of Christ in 2008, I know that I am not now, nor will I be in this life, free from sin and the distractions that try to keep me away from God.
This Independence Day I am going to commit to make more of an effort to turn away from the distractions of this world and try to be a 2 Chronicles 7 Christian. A Christian that is humble, prays, and always seeks the face of God with passion.
