The Future…..

by Charley on June 19, 2008

This has been quite the week! As mentioned in my previous post, I was working at the Alexandria Waterfront Festival last weekend. This was my 5th and final year working on the executive committee. I have really enjoyed working the festival and have meet some great people, but that weekend is all consuming and causes me to miss out on dedicated family time. It was a little different this year in that taking an extra day off after the festival gave me what could very well be a glimpse into the future.

Sierra has been wanting to play the guitar for a while now, but on Monday we made the commitment and after securing lessons, we bought a 3/4 acoustic guitar. It came home in the box and was immediately opened without my knowledge or help. When we heard some strange noises coming from the family room, it was Sierra playing a severely out of tune guitar and singing a song that Kathy said was from American Idol. (I’m not an Idol watcher, so it was new to me). Now, she reminds me of the movie La Bamba where Ritchie was taking his guitar with him everywhere he goes, to school, on dates, to bed… get my drift. She has gotten proficient at carrying it with her all around the house, and would take it everywhere if we let her.

I don’t know if there are similarities, or if she will be like me and start lessons and never really get into it. (I later found out that is a symptom of my ADHD, makes sense to me now, but I wish I had known about it then)

So, the moral of the story is that there are 3 things I can say about the future:

    1. She will be better at guitar than I could ever dream of being.
    2. I will not be subjecting myself to another full waterfront festival weekend (if Warren asks me to be runner again, I may consider it, maybe)
    3. My FM Radio debut is tomorrow night on Renegade Radio from 6-9 PDT
