Work of God

You know, being more of a listener and not so much of a talker (except on the radio of course) I have always heard the phrase”its a God thing” or “it was a God moment”. I have never experienced anything like that before, so that is the topic of today’s post.

If you follow me on facebook or twitter, you would know that I posted that I was working my final Red Cross Waterfront Festival this past weekend. The other multitude of experiences from the weekend will be the subject of a future blog post. Trust me, some really good stuff to talk about..

My job for the weekend was to be the runner. The runner’s job is to play chauffeur to all of the bands coming in, driving them around from the airport, to the hotel, to the venue, and back again. Being a part time concert promoter I know this is always one of the hardest volunteer positions to fill because you don’t want it to be the “super fan”, the Mr. or Mrs Talky Pants or the person who doesn’t know their way around town. So, I fit the bill pretty well for this weekend, but I digress.

It was on one of these runs that I felt I was doing the Work of God, but didn’t even realize it until a couple of days later. I was taking a member of one of the bands back to his hotel, and there was just the typical small talk about what I do for a living and what not and when I said I do 2 christian rock radio shows he was taken aback. He had never heard christian rock even though he had grown up a christian. He was telling me about how he had brittle bone disease as a kid and that his church was really supportive of him while he was growing up, and that he had gotten away from the church after many years. I told him that one of Sierra’s best friends has the same disease.

His voice had started to get somewhat softer and he was also telling me that he had recently started feeling drawn back to the church and a deeper relationship with God. I asked him if he remembered the story of the shepherd and the last sheep, and reminded him that as that shepherd rejoiced when the lost sheep was found, God will rejoice when he comes back to a relationship with Him. I didn’t say it before, but I was having a rough day, didn’t sleep for but 4 hours and when I was feeling weak and weary, I was doing the work of God and didn’t even know it. Experiences like this make me want to talk more…..
